1. Orthopedics Department

Orthopedics is a medical specialty that specializes in injuries and disease conditions of the Musculo-skeletal system, including bones, muscles, joints, and ligaments. Old age, injury, poor posture, or intense collisions and movements can cause damage to the musculoskeletal system of the body.

2. Physiological functions of the Musculo-skeletal system

An adult has 206 bones, accounting for about 15% of body weight. New skeletal tissue is formed in the bones during this process, while the old bone is broken down into calcium and other minerals that are released into the blood. This process, known as “bone digestion,” is a typical physiological function of bones that happens all the time. In addition to building the skeleton and sustaining the body’s various soft tissues, the joint system protects vital organs including the brain and spinal cord, permits muscle adhesion and movement, stores fat and minerals, and produces blood cells.

3. Diseases seen in orthopedics

Statistics show that bone and joint illness affects more than 80% of those over 65. Individuals experience discomfort in their shoulder, knee, and hand joints, or other joints and motions. It is accompanied by a variety of other symptoms, including swelling, joint abnormalities, joint stiffness, and movement limitations. The main causes of joint problems can be divided into three categories: systemic factors (age, gender, genetic factors, etc.), joint factors (history of injury, muscle weakness, etc.), and external factors such as obesity or excessive exercise.

Skeletal muscle damage is a common occurrence in modern life, maybe as a result of an accident or sports-related injury. The majority of injuries are either sprains or crashes. When there is a strong impact force, as from a punch, kick, item, fall, motorbike collision, or explosion, injuries from crashes happen. Penetrating injuries are wounds to the skin that are caused by sharp items (such as shattered glass or knives).
