1. What is Pediatrics?

Pediatrics refers to treatment in the pediatric and adolescent departments.  Children’s healthcare teams identify and address specific health, illness, and disability issues throughout children’s growth and development.

2. Physiological functions of children

It is a wrong view to see children as small adults. This is because children have the following physiological characteristics. Children’s body temperature is higher than that of adults, which is a result of their higher metabolism than adults. However, because their ability to regulate their body temperature is still developing, they are more vulnerable to hypothermia (below 35°C) or hyperthermia (over 38.5°C).

Children’s breathing is greater than that of adults because their respiratory function is insufficient, and they require a lot of oxygen. The pulse is 140 beats in newborns and 90 beats in a child, which is much faster than 60-80 beats (males) and 70-90 beats (female beats) in adults. The systolic blood pressure is higher than that of adults, and the diastolic blood pressure is similar. In children’s blood, hemoglobin and red blood cell count are low, and white blood cell count is high.

3. Diseases seen in pediatrics

Pathologies requiring treatment in pediatrics include:

  • Digestive tract diseases common in children
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Infectious and tropical diseases
  • Urology
  • Allergic diseases, respiratory system, otolaryngology
  • Nervousness.
  • Hematology
  • Treat endocrine diseases
  • Skin
